The subject of my work is based on the reality of movement. I have been examining the highly mobile human frame, through timed choreographed sequences with emphasis on the relationship of the figure groups rather than on the single form. I have sought to internalise and abstract the expressive human form and respond imaginatively to it. Consideration is likewise given to the expressive language of drawing and printing, its tactility, tonality and unity of surface.
I work across the media of printing, painting and collage, and seek to express the energy and broken connections created by moving figures. I prefer to work in fine layers of material either in printing, painting, collage, and sometimes a combination of all these processes. This allows me to create a sense of veiled thoughts, and a need for the viewers to search for their own interpretation of the work. I use a limited palette, this enables me to concentrate on the issues being presented, whilst the subtleties in the change of tones create their own harmonic rhythm, and add spatial qualities which are important to me.
